Once again I'm off to Utah for work. I'll be back next week with lots of new posts. In the meantime, enjoy this pic from my last trip.

Calling the Fashion Police!

Sienna Miller secretly attends Jane Fonda's workout class and afterwards she's going to ride off into the sunset on her hog with rhinestone clutch in hand. Too bad it's not 1984. Enough is enough with the 80's fashions. The spandex line has been crossed!

I'm Bringing Shiny Back...

Anyone who caught the 2007 Spring fashion shows came away with at least one comment: shiny is back, and it’s HUGE! (sometimes literally) I’m personally excited for shiny clothes, shoes and bags to be in for Spring. My jersey knits were getting me down a little. I need something to sparkle in, especially when I go out. And for you single fabulous girls, everyone knows guys are attracted to shiny things.

For the spring, find shiny tops that are in a variety of colors, like green, gold and purple. Or if you’re not ready to go full on Dolce and Gabbana shiny mini-dress, look for a more demure shiny item like a purse or ballet flats. Keep the shine coming girls!

Check out the Shine On trend from several designers this season.

Not too sure about the Grease Lightning stretch pants, but you get the idea.

I like your sleeves. They're really big. (name the movie!)

Green Goddess: Korres Beauty Review

Review: Korres Honey Moisturizing Mask

The soon to be single digit temps in NYC have completely ravaged my face. Instead of having an oily T-Zone as a source of angst, I have an extremely dry one. Either way, it’s unattractive and needed to be remedied.

A little while back I had my first experience ordering from the Derm Store and to get free shipping I threw into my shopping bag a product I had never heard of. It was Korres Honey Moisturizing Mask. Korres is a Greek based beauty company who prides itself on environmentally friendly and all natural cosmetic products. I thought the Honey Moisturizing Mask sounded fresh and helpful to my winter dry skin.

I tried it out for the first time last night. It has a very light pleasant scent and is very creamy as you apply it. Its main ingredients are Honey Extract, Macadamia Nut Oil and Quince. The directions said to leave it on for 10 minutes (although you can leave it on overnight) then rinse off with lukewarm water.

Surprisingly the mask did not firm up like other masks, but rather dried without making my face feel like it was going to crack off. After I rinsed it off, my skin did feel very smooth and soft, although a little bit tight, which I thought wasn’t going to happen. After that I went to bed with a light moisturizing toner on (like I always do).

In the morning my skin looked absolutely radiant. My make up went on smoothly without primer, and the overall tone/color of my skin was definitely improved. I highly recommend the Korres Moisturizing Mask if your skin is in that dull winter blah mood or just needs a little pick me up. I can’t wait to try some more of the Korres line!

Your Friend is the T-Rex of Bridezilla's

I was speechless after I first saw this video of a bride returning from the hair salon on her wedding day. This is why you do a hair-run-through before the day of the wedding ladies. I think I would have slapped her and dumped a bottle of Dep in her hair! There is a tiny bit of NSFW language, so keep the volume low if you're at work. Enjoy!

Spot 'em Spanks!

Even celebrities wear 'sucky-in-things' too! I'm pretty sure Katie Holmes, in Paris with Victoria Beckam (Posh Spice), still needs a little girdle action after giving birth to baby Suri. I'm guessing they're the miraculous Spanks. Look closely, they look like nude colored bike shorts that do wonders for the bum.

The Savvy Bombshell

I saw this on one of my favorite blogs, Beauty Addict, and thought some of you would be interested. It’s Bombshell Bargains, a Canadian website that has all the tres expensive makeup that you love for those lovely low Canadian exchange prices. Orders over $100 have free shipping, with everything under $100 having a flat $10 shipping fee.

I couldn’t find all of my favorite items that I usually buy at Sephora, but these goodies could be worth shopping across the border:

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit, 21.15 USD (usually $32)
I’m kicking myself right now for not finding this site sooner! And now that I can’t live without my creamy concealer kit, I know where to find it in the future.

MAC Fluidline 11.83 USD (usually $14.50)
Bombshell has tons of colors of Fluidline and it’s perfect for getting that liquid eyeliner look. Also comes with an applicator brush, I’ll take it, thank you!

Nars Single Eyeshadow 17.75 USD (usually $21)
My favorite eye shadow of all time is $3 cheaper? I’m sooo there in Sugarbaby with bells on.

Lancome Juicy Tubes 12.67 USD (usually $17.50)
Name the Juicy Tube and it’s at Bombshell. Really indulge your lip gloss obsession now (as if you didn’t before). It’s a Juicy Tube extravaganza!

More Gloss for Your Pretty Pucker

How many lip glosses do you have in your purse right now? I have 8. I think I have a problem. It’s too late for me. And it’s about to get worse. My lovely cousin told me about the new Kiehl’s line of 8 Simply Mahvelous Lip Glosses. Of course they still have my old favorites Goldenberry and Black Raspberry, but with 6 new colors to add to my collection. I think I want Icy Everest and Pink Rider, actually I want them all!

Kiehl’s gloss is always perfect because it has everything lips want: a touch of color, shine and the all-important moisturizing factor. I’ve been a Kiehl’s lip gloss addict for a long time now, and although it doesn’t compare to my Chanel lip gloss obsession, I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get all 8 of these new little precious tubes.

Make it 16 in my purse!

Trends for 2007: Silver Liquid Eyeliner

When I was 19 and a sophomore in college I got this stylish gift set from Elizabeth Arden. I wasn’t the makeup maven that I am today, so I was extremely excited to see all the shiny colors and slick packaging. In the set was this special edition silver liquid eyeliner. Part of me believes that little bottle of silver liquid eyeliner started my makeup obsession. I wore it out at night all the time and became pretty good at applying it smoothly. Alas, silver liquid eyeliner doesn’t last forever. Since then I haven’t been able to find the precious stuff anywhere. Since it was special edition, Elizabeth Arden doesn’t make it anymore and doesn’t carry anything similar.

I thought I was going to be stuck with black liquid eyeliner, until I heard about two new products. The first is Revlon’s Molten Metal eye shadow, and then second is Lancome’s Artliner. Molten Metal is more for covering a large area of the eye lid with a metallic hue (we’re heading in the right direction), while the Artliner is exactly what I was looking for. It has a slim precision brush that applies the liquid and once it sets, it doesn’t budge! Artliner comes in 10 colors; my personal picks are Socialite (silver) and Starshower (gold).

I’m sure the movie Dreamgirls should take credit for the sudden rise of the liquid liner; I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Lancome Artliner Sephora, $27

Revlon Molten Metal Amazon, $12.24 Limited Edition

Trend for 2007: Golden Globes Glitter with White

Apparently all of the psychic messages I’ve been sending out about not wearing black to special occasions are working. Black was not a big color at the Golden Globes this year. Instead, white was the new trendy choice. There were at least 10 celebs sporting either a sleek white Grecian look, or billowy white floating layers.

I was actually surprised at the abundance of white, since white is a hard color to pull off, especially if you have a very fair complexion.

Although white was everywhere, I didn’t absolutely LOVE any of them. I think the Grecian look is a little done for me, and I still prefer a bold red or shot of color than the possibility of being washed out in white.

Jennifer Garner definitely has her pre-baby body back. I don't really like this dress though. It looks like she got Grecian and art deco all jumbled up together. The dress also does nothing for her bust.

Salma Hayek is undoubtedly gorgeous and usually does well with fashion. But I think this dress is a miss. She's very voluptuous, yet petite and I think the drapery of this dress overwhelms her.

Emily Blunt's cream colored dress is a far stretch from the outrageous ensembles she had in The Devil Wears Prada. I like the neckline and straps on this dress, although the descending pleats aren't my favorite.

Everyone and their mother has agreed that Cameron Diaz looked like a hot mess at the GG's. Poor Cameron, dumped by Justin and now this? I actually think this dress could have been salvaged if she had gone without the black bow at the waist. If the dress were in a light blue hue, her hair back to blond, a few less ruffles blah blah blah I'm sure it would have been a hit.

Siena Miller is supposed to be some kind of fashion icon, especially with her love of Mod styles. I like the gold and white contrasts of this dress, although the drapery at the neckline is overdone. Her hair on the other hand is unspeakable! She's Von Trap meets me as a 4 year old meets women who sell 2 liter mugs full of beer. Major yikes!

I honestly want Kate Winslet to do well. She doesn't play into the whole Hollywood skinny thing, and she picks clever roles and is all cute and English doing them. I think her dress is simple and elegant and clearly she's trying to look good, but hasn't over done it.

Ali Lauter (Heroes) is a new face on the red carpet. The story is that she found this dress a few hours before the show. I'm not sure if I actually believe that, but it's a good start to be a fashion non-disaster for your first big award show.

None of the Golden Globe dress blew me away, let's hope I have better luck with the Academy Awards.

It’s Too Cold to Ski in a Bikini!

In honor of my weekend trip out to Utah, it’s time to gear up snow bunnies! It hasn’t snowed in NYC yet, but there’s tons of snow where I’m going. So if you’ve got an out-west trip planned, or are lucky enough to live out in all that snow, check out some of these fashionable, yet winter ready items.

Ok, maybe not my most fabulous ski pic, but I'm a serious skier :-)
Grandoe Gloves Fur Trimmed, Nordstom, $45
The only gloves that I’ll ski in are Grandoe. These aren’t meant for skiing, but even if you’re just making that long trip from your condo to the pub these gloves will keep your hands toasty.

Aviator Hat, Bloomingdale’s, $55
I am usually opposed to wearing bunny fur, but this aviator hat is fabulous. If you’re worried about getting it dirty, skip the white color and get the black. I’m warm just looking at it.

Marmot Rubicon Jacket, Marmot, $315
Marmot is another outdoor company that I love. Their jackets are cut especially with women in mind and have plenty of pockets for all your tissues, lip glosses and Ipods.

Oakley A Frame Hot Pink, USoutdoorstore.com, $120
Who can resist pink goggles? I like these because they won’t fog up.

Lord & Taylor Cashmere Turtleneck, L&T, 74.99
When it’s après ski time you’ll want to look cute, so put on this great light pink cashmere sweater. Thin cashmere sweaters are great for winter travel because they’re warm and don’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase.

Hot Chillys PeachSkins, EssentialApparel.com, $31.90
When it’s a high of 5 degrees, you’ll be happy you have your long john’s on. These Peach Skins are a far cry from the wool red onesie you had when you were five.

And look out for more 2007 trends when I get back!

Cosmetics Restriction Diet: the Anti-Beauty Addict

Last week the NY Times had an article about dermatologists putting their patients on a ‘cosmetics restriction diet.’ The new method of treating problem skin is to leave it alone: clearly this is a revolution. I’m not kidding; in the article Dr. Cook-Bolden confiscated all but three of her patients’ vast collection of face products. She suggests using a basic face wash such as Cetaphil (OK, I agree with using Cetaphil), sunscreen and maybe some zit cream: that’s it. Just three products! What about all of my refining masks, toners, collagen creams, eye serums and pore minimizers??? I have heard rumors that if you strip the natural oil from your skin, your oil ducts go into overdrive and pop goes the blemishes, but there is no way I’m getting rid of my St. Ives Apricot Scrub!

I think if people actually believed they only need two face products, the beauty industry would go under. Check out this intriguing article.

Trends for 2007: Madness is the New Black Satin

I've posted before about the craze over Chanel's nail polish Black Satin. I personally believe the black nail polish trend is over, and now Chanel has proved me right.

Their new polish Madness is already sold out in many stores, with eBay prices already up to $45.00. Madness is described as a "rich chocolate" color, but I think it really shines with some deep burgundy tones. It's still a color to be worn on very short round or squared nails. I think Macy's has some left, get it while it's hot girls!

Chanel Madness, $18

Trends for 2007: Feminine Menswear

I recently watched The Devil Wears Prada again and saw the cute featurettes included on the DVD as special features. One of the featurettes went through the importance of clothes in the movie (Anne Hathaway had over 65 costume changes) and the genius that is costume designer Patricia Field. I actually thought the clothes in Prada could have been even more over the top (too much black), but there was definitely some of Patricia Field’s famous ‘fashion forecasting’ in the choices of Andy’s wardrobe.

Feminine Menswear was one of those trends, and I think for 2007 it’s going to be very now. Designers are looking to soften their collections and feminine menswear for women is just elegant enough while still being sassy.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Striped Melanie Blouse J.Crew, $75
This top in Bright Blue is adorable. I love the bow in the back, and the cinched waist and pin-tucked pleats in the front make this look tailored. The small puffed sleeves give it a distinctive touch of femininity.

Cropped Jacket Nanette Lepore, $360
By now, I’m sure all of you can tell I’m obsessed with Nanette Lepore. Her stuff is a little pricey, but if you can find it on sale it’s a must buy. This jacket has the look of a man’s vest, but since it’s a cropped jacket it’s not as severe looking.

Spectra Pump Charles David, $215
I’ve wanted a spectator pump forever! This one has the traditional wall street wing tip, but with a sexy stiletto to spice it up.

Tuxedo Shirt Nanette Lepore, $260 no longer available at Neimans :-( Try Lord & Taylor

Red Spectator Dress Shoe Moschino, $595
These shoes are to die for! They’re a spectator peep-toe sling-back with a small detail bow and accented in white. If I had $595 just laying around I know what I would do with it!!

2007: Navy is the new Black

Reader Request: Everything Navy Blue

I’ve always had a preference for navy over black. Black clothing is easy to find, especially in NYC, but finding navy clothes, shoes, and purses is rare. You might see someone wearing navy, but you can never find it yourself. Luckily, for my fellow navy-ophiles and me, this season designers fell in love with navy again.

Sleeveless Lace Shell BeBe, $79 if you can find it in navy in-store.

Navy Patent Elaa Steve Madden, $79.95
I just got these shoes, but in the closed-toe version. They’re so 1946 chic, but they are a bit uncomfortable.

Eyelet Top BeBe, $69
Pair this top with white slacks. Navy and white always look so fresh to me.

Piazza Cotton Jacket J.Crew, $140
This jacket would be perfect with slim cigarette pants.

Wild Daisy Prink Skirt J.Crew, $118
This skirt screams day at the Hamptons Polo fields, but I think with a crisp white button down, you could wear it to work.

Hue Footless Tights Bare Necessities, $11 with Mini Skirt Rich and Skinny (this brand name is just too much!), $143

Small Zip Hobo Cole Haan, $425
I saw this hobo in the Cole Haan store and immediately fell in love, the navy suede is gorgeous.

Well navy may never be the new black, but with all these hot navy items, a girl can hope can’t she?

More Nautical

I had to put this in just to show how big nautical themes are this year!
